What we were looking for
A load-bearing shelf system with bounded spans, adequate shelf thickness, resistance to sag and racking, and hardware that can be tightened or replaced.
Why the decision is still open
Two credible paths remain: a bounded solid-wood or hardwood-plywood build and a bolt-together industrial steel shelf. The case must choose one Form before naming one ideal.
What prevents a clear pick
- Particleboard spans that sag, fragile cam-locks, unrated shelves, decorative complexity that weakens the structure, and hardware that cannot be replaced.
What a qualifying product must do
- Select one construction Form and verify span, thickness, load rating, anti-racking design, and parts availability.
What can go wrong
- Shelf sag, racking, loose fasteners, damaged edges, and unsupported spans overloaded beyond the Form.
