Why the decision is still open
Maximally rebuildable computing Form: standardized ATX parts (PSU, case, GPU, RAM, storage) enable component-level replacement. Linux extends useful life beyond forced Windows obsolescence. Realistic horizon is ~10–15 years with periodic part refreshes.
What prevents a clear pick
- Motherboard/CPU/RAM platform shifts force major rebuild every ~10–15 years; requires technical competence and willingness to run Linux.
